Tower of Silence or Zoroastrian’s Dakhma, Yazd, Iran

Tower of Silence or Zoroastrian’s Dakhma (built with brick with different usages in past), located 15 km from Yazd city in vicinity of Safaieh region on hill tops including two structures of which one is older than other one. Zoroastrian’s use it for excarnation that is for dead bodies to be exposed to carrion birds in a bid to prevent the pollution of earth. Later they put bones in pit. The tower has circular and dome shape top and all part of structures covered with stone, and divided into three parts for men, women as well as children. There is a central pit of the tower of silence which was the bone burial site.
