The art of khatam-kari is one of the beautiful Iranian Handicrafts that is so worthy. The record of khatam-kari dates back to old time and it was flourish in different eras but in Safavid period the art was at the peak (1722- 1501 AD). It is technique of inlaying regular polygon with different sides that is made with different kind of material in different colors. Khatam-kari is a craft that need more work and patience. Wood, bone and metal are main material for Khatam. The art was so popular in the court for decorating painting frames, wall and windows but today it use to decorate jewelry box, frame, Backgammon and others. Khatam is one the souvenir of Shiraz and Isfahan cities, tourist usually purchase Khatam as a unique gift for their family and friends.
