Gahar Lake

Gahar Lake, Lorestan, Iran

Gahar Lake is located 35 km from Dorud county, Lorestan province in the Oshtorankouh Mountains. The lake comprising two sections great Gahar (Kaleh gahar) and small Gahar (koreh gahar). Big Gahar is 2350m above the sea level in total span of 85 hectares with the depth of 4 to 28 meters and its water originate from mountainous springs which is clear and tranquil. There are two types of sandy and rocky beaches in shore of lake, there are also two forest in upper and lower part of the lake. Oak, willow, almond, wild pistachio, wild pear, Upside down tulip, Tulip, Canna indica, Irises, Tulipa sylvestris, Amaranthus and goat, deer, Ovis orientalis, wolf, leopard, brown bear, boar, eagle, falcon, Partridge, brown trout, Rainbow trout, eel, turtle, and frog are among flora and fauna in the perimeter of the lake. Fishing and boating are pleasure activities that can be done in the lake, July and August are good time to visit the lake.
