Naqsh-e Rustam

Naqsh-e Rustam, Shiraz, Iran

Naqsh-e Rustam is an ancient necropolis located in Zanghiabad village in North of Marvdasht county, Fars province. It is located 6 km from Takht-e jamshid (one of the ancient cities of Iran). It dates back to 1200B.C. Four tombs belonging to Achaemenid (330- 550 Ad) kings are carved out of the rock face at a considerable height above the ground tomb of Darius I, Xerxes I, Artaxerxes I and Darius II. Different rock reliefs cut into cliff that depict important events of Sassanid dynasty (224-651B.C) including wars and ceremonies that were held. Ka’ba-ye-zartosht (Cube of Zoroaster) is the name of stone quadrangular and stepped structure 5th century B.C Achaemenid edifice in three languages that describe historical events and the oldest inscription remaining from Elamite (539-2700B.C) is also in Naqsh-e Rustam. Naqsh-e Rustam is full of historical attractions and consider as precious treasure, it is an important tourism attractions of the country that play effective role in attracting both local and foreign tourists.
